Sin has twisted justice and made our world unpredictable and ugly. This is one reason things happen to us that make no sense. Good is not always rewarded and bad is not always punished. So often we ask the question, why is this happening to me? As Job discovered and as I am learning also, it's better to know God than to know answers! That's where faith comes in.
The Prayer of Jabez... 1 Chron. 4:10
That you would bless me; That you would enlarge my border; That your hand would be with me; That you would keep me from evil. The Prayer of Moses... Exodus 33:13,15 Show me thy way; That I may know thee; That I would find grace in thy sight; If you go not with me, don't let me go. Anything in there for you? One of my favorite verses in the Bible begins with, nevertheless. It is found in 2 Timothy 3:19a, Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure...If I, or you, could just remember to respond with this verse when things go bad, or when ____________________________ (fill in the blank) it would be a tremendous comfort, encouragement and a peaceful feeling that would provide calm in the midst of a storm.
From Alpha to Omega and all the names of God in between, I think my favorite may not be a name at all. If all of His names reveal an aspect of His character or being, perhaps an aspect of His character or being could also be a name. If so, I believe my favorite is found in Romans 4:5...but to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Did you catch it? I believe my favorite name is, "Him that justifieth the ungodly." What a name! That's who I placed my faith in 38 years ago. By the way, that's a pretty good name for me too..."ungodly".
Radical Muslims want to die for Allah. Radical Christians want to live for Christ.
Jim Lehrer, in responding to the fleeting criticisms he received after moderating the Presidential debate, stated "spin doesn't really work if people have seen the event." Perhaps this is why there was no "spin" after the resurrection of Jesus Christ...people saw him die and then saw him alive, on multiple occasions, and at one time, having appeared to more than 500 people. Hard to spin that!
